Blogs - Content & SEO Strategy

Building a search-driven content system with lasting organic reach

I built the Visit San Antonio blog from the ground up in 2022, transforming it into a scalable, search-driven content channel that reached more than 957K annual pageviews (2.5x growth) and 885K annual sessions.

The blog was designed to support multiple audience journeys, including leisure travelers planning visits and meeting planners evaluating San Antonio as an event destination.

Rather than approaching the blog as a publishing initiative, I treated it as a long-term search and content strategy focused on discoverability, audience intent, and sustained traffic growth.

Search Intent & Scalable Traffic Growth

SEO Strategy, search intent optimization, content architecture

I developed this piece around high-volume search demand and structured it to align closely with user intent, creating a highly discoverable evergreen resource designed to capture top-of-funnel travel searches.

The article became the highest-performing page on the blog, averaging 1 minute and 38 seconds of engagement time and generating sustained organic traffic at scale.

Its performance ultimately led to the content being elevated from a blog post into a permanent section of the website’s primary navigation, extending its visibility and long-term organic value.

Audience Segmentation & B2B Content Strategy

B2B content strategy, audience segmentation

Visit San Antonio serves two distinct audiences: leisure travelers and meeting and event professionals. This piece was developed specifically for the latter, guiding planners through historic venue options using the practical detail, structure, and decision-oriented information that the audience expects.

Unlike consumer travel content, meeting planner content requires a fundamentally different content strategy focused on logistics, functionality, and professional usability rather than inspiration alone.

This project demonstrates the ability to adapt messaging, content structure, and audience targeting strategies across both B2C and B2B-focused user journeys.

Editorial Content & Real-time Audience Behavior

Editorial content, cross-channel distribution

This itinerary-based piece was selected as the official companion content for the River Parade program guide and distributed to thousands of attendees during one of San Antonio’s largest annual cultural events.

Audience behavior patterns showed recurring traffic spikes every November 1, indicating strong real-time usage during the event itself and reinforcing the value of mobile-friendly, experience-driven editorial content during high-intent travel moments.

Evergreen SEO & Authority Compounding

Evergreen content strategy, content operations

Instead of creating a new New Year’s Eve article annually, I developed a long-term evergreen strategy centered around maintaining and refreshing a single high-authority URL each year.

By preserving URL equity and continuously updating the content with current events and travel information, the page steadily compounded search authority over time while reliably capturing seasonal planning traffic each November and December.

The strategy created a repeatable framework for seasonal content performance without fragmenting search visibility across multiple competing pages.

Key Takeaways

This work reinforced the importance of treating content as a long-term acquisition system rather than a short-term publishing calendar.

Across the blog strategy, the focus remained consistent:

  • aligning content with audience intent

  • building discoverability through SEO

  • creating evergreen content systems that compound over time

  • and using performance data to guide ongoing optimization decisions
